91st working seminar of the Steel Strips Society
The President of the Steel Strips Society, Ing. Martin Špok, opened the plenary part of the seminar at 9:00 a.m. on October 15, 2024. He first welcomed all those present in the conference room of the KONGRES Hotel Roca, Košice. The guarantor of the seminar, Ing. Norbert Kubík, MBA, U.S. Steel Košice, s.r.o., also welcomed all those present.
The Secretary of the Society, Ing. Pavel Vavroš, introduced those present to the proposed program of the morning plenary session and asked the plenary for comments and additions to this proposal. The plenary agreed without comments to the following program:
- opening of the 91st workshop,
- checking attendance, familiarization with the program of the 91st workshop,
- evaluation of the 90th workshop,
- information on the activities of the Executive Board for the last period since the 90th workshop,
- preparation of the 92nd spring and 93rd autumn workshops,
- changes in the membership base,
- preparation of a foreign professional excursion,
- break,
- proposed change of the name of the company,
- revision of the SOP statutes,
- discussion and various,
- organizational instructions for the next parts of the seminar
During the plenary session, two applicants for membership in the Society were introduced, whose applications had been received by the Executive Board since the last 90th spring workshop.
Ing. Juraj Svatoš briefly introduced Ing. Petr Eliáš, from Vítkovice Steel, a.s.
The President of the Society Ing. Martin Špok, further introduced the company PT Solution Worldwide spol. s r.o. represented by Ing. Jan Knobloch.
After that, the plenary session unanimously accepted Ing. Petr Eliáš as a physical member of the Steel Belts Company.
Furthermore, the plenary session unanimously accepted PT Solution Worldwide spol. s r.o. as a member of the Steel Belts Company.
The President of the Company, Ing. Martin Špok, provided more detailed information about the foreign professional excursion, which has been preliminarily agreed with the Danieli company to the Udine area and its surroundings in Italy and should take place at the beginning of June 2025. The trip would take place by bus under the auspices of a selected travel agency.
Specialized, lecture part
The specialized part of the 91st Workshop took place on October 15, 2024 in the afternoon, in the KONGRES conference room of the Roca Hotel. The seminar guarantor, Ing. Norbert Kubík, MBA, opened the afternoon lecture block, during which the following lectures were presented:

Social evening
The social evening took place in the KONGRES lounge of the Roca Hotel.
The following members celebrated or will celebrate significant life anniversaries this year:
- Ing. Martin Špok – 28.10.1964,
- Ing. Martin Pavliska, Ph.D. – 10.11.1964,
- Ing. Juraj Svatoš – 31.12.1964,
- Ing. Alfons Pískala – 04.07.1939.
As is customary at the seminars of the Steel Belts Society, the evening was accompanied by a fruitful, informal conversation between guests and members.
Professional excursion and conclusion of the 91st working seminar
The traditional excursion took place on Wednesday, 16. 10. 2024 at the company U.S. Steel Košice s.r.o.
U.S.Steel Košice s.r.o. is the largest steel producer in Central Europe. Its history dates back to 1959, when the founding document establishing the national enterprise Východoslovenské železiarne was signed.
The company currently has around 7,700 employees. Annual slab production is 3.99 million tons.
The production range includes hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, steel for electrical engineering and spirally welded pipes.
These products are then used in the automotive industry, in the production of household appliances, in the packaging industry, in the energy sector and in the construction industry.
Our excursion began with the admission of all those registered, the necessary safety training and the packing of personal protective equipment.
Then we got into a prepared bus and went through the entire steelworks with an expert explanation of the individual plants.
Hot rolling mill. Following the technological flow, we went through the entire hot rolling mill, albeit standing due to a decrease in orders. At least we could calmly inspect the individual technological units.
Cold rolling mill. We were not so lucky at the cold rolling mill. One unit was scheduled for repair and the strip on the other one we visited had a tear.
Pickling line. The only equipment that was producing during the excursion was pickling line 3.
The final lunch was held in the lounge of U.S. Steel Košice s.r.o., after which the President of the Company, Ing. Martin Špok, thanked his colleagues from Košice for the preparation and implementation of the seminar, wished the other members a safe journey and closed the seminar.
